R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Members of San Jacinto Lodge #106 will celebrate
their organization's sesquicentennial on April 5, 2003, and this
historic event offers a fitting opportunity to pay tribute to this
venerable organization; and
WHEREAS, Chartered on January 1, 1853, San Jacinto Lodge #106
was originally located in Danville but relocated to Willis in 1872;
the lodge's first worshipful master was Thomas Carothers, and the
positions of senior warden and junior warden were held respectively
by B. B. Stansell and John T. Johnson; and
WHEREAS, Destroyed by storm in February 1882 and by fire in
June 1882 and May 1919, Lodge #106 has suffered through its share of
catastrophes yet remains a pillar of the community; the current
building was dedicated in March 1956 and continues to stand proud as
a testament to the members' tenacity and dedication; and
WHEREAS, Today with 160 members, the lodge aids area families
by helping to provide clothing and school supplies for children and
by supporting children's health care in local hospitals and
clinics; in addition, scholarships are given to local high school
graduates who need financial assistance to pursue their dreams of
higher education; and
WHEREAS, To commemorate the 150th anniversary celebration of
San Jacinto Lodge #106, M. Boyd Patterson, Grand Master of Masons in
Texas, will present the keynote address at this event, and his
presence underscores the importance of this noteworthy milestone;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby recognize the sesquicentennial of San Jacinto
Lodge #106 and extend best wishes to Worshipful Master Amos W.
Oughton, Senior Warden Thomas Willis, Junior Warden Robert Brabham,
and the other members of the lodge; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the members of San Jacinto Lodge #106 as an expression
of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
