R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Laura Fisher of Houston has recently been awarded a 2003 Prudential Spirit of Community Award for her exemplary volunteer service; and WHEREAS, This prestigious award, presented by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, honors young volunteers from across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving their communities; and WHEREAS, A student at Memorial Senior High School, Ms. Fisher earned this distinction by establishing a weekly art class for young cancer patients at Texas Children's Hospital; inspired by her own difficult stay in the hospital a few years before, this generous and motivated young woman recognized the challenges of extended hospitalization, approached hospital staff with her idea, recruited her fellow high school students to help her implement the program, and has been teaching the Saturday afternoon class for nearly a year; and WHEREAS, The dedication and hard work of this remarkable young woman are truly commendable, for she has vividly demonstrated through her actions what a tremendous difference one person can make to positively affect the lives of others; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Laura Fisher on being named a 2003 Prudential Spirit of Community Award winner and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Fisher as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
