R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Joseph (Jose) Lord Tweedy, Jr., on December 22, 2002, at the age of 83, brought a great loss to the family and friends of this esteemed gentleman; and WHEREAS, Born to Jose and Eva Browne Tweedy on March 29, 1919, in Plainfield, New Jersey, Mr. Tweedy spent his formative years on the family farm at Knickerbocker near San Angelo; he attended San Angelo schools before being accepted to Phillips Exeter Academy, and he went on to attend Yale University; and WHEREAS, After his father's death, Mr. Tweedy and his cousins, Andrew M. Tweedy, Jr., and Lawrence L. Tweedy, Jr., accepted the responsibilities of managing the family farm; in 1942, he again followed in his father's footsteps by joining the U.S. military, and he eventually flew 35 missions over Germany as a B-24 pilot; and WHEREAS, At the conclusion of World War II, Mr. Tweedy returned to the Lone Star State and earned a degree in accounting from The University of Texas; he joined the accounting department of Lone Star Steel and put his skills as a certified public accountant to good use for a number of years; and WHEREAS, An active member of his community, Mr. Tweedy was a member and treasurer of the Tom Green County Historical Commission and served on the Knickerbocker Community Center's board of directors; he was recently elected program chairman for the Tom Green Historical Society and was a longtime member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church; and WHEREAS, Although his passing has left a void in the lives of the many people who were privileged to know this remarkable man, his spirit will live on in their hearts and minds, and his legacy of good works will not soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Joseph (Jose) Lord Tweedy, Jr., and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Harriett Monroe Tweedy; to his stepchildren, Dr. R.
