R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Richard Davis Edson on August 23,
2002, at the age of 70, brought a great loss to friends and family of
this respected Houston resident; and
WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Edson received his education at
Houston public schools, Kemper Military Academy, and Rice
University; he went on to serve his nation with distinction from
1952 to 1957 as a 1st lieutenant aviator in the U.S. Marine Corps;
and
WHEREAS, This exceptional individual was active in his
community as a scout leader and Spring Branch Civic Association
board member, and participated in the political process by working
for the Republican Party; and
WHEREAS, Those who shared Mr. Edson's friendship will long
miss his presence, but his remarkable spirit lives on in the hearts
of those whose lives he touched during his time on this earth; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Richard Davis Edson
and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
wife, Garleen Merritt Edson; to his sons and daughter-in-law,
Robert Edson, and Richard and Suzane Edson; to his daughter and
son-in-law, Brenda and Tony Meyer; to his grandsons, Richard,
Michael, Charles, and James Meyer; to his sister, Betty
McGillicuddy; and to the other relatives and many friends of this
esteemed gentleman; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House
of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Richard
Davis Edson.
