R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Residents of Del Rio lost a beloved neighbor and
friend with the passing of Allen Henry Jernigan on January 13, 2002,
at the age of 84; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Jernigan was born in Portales, New Mexico, on
July 19, 1917; a veteran of World War II, he served in the United
States Army in the European Theater; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman married Iva Esther Wideman
on June 15, 1941, and the couple enjoyed a rich and rewarding
marriage; and
WHEREAS, Allen Henry Jernigan was a man of dedication and
integrity, and while he will be greatly missed, his memory lives on
in the hearts and minds of the many people whose lives he touched;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Allen Henry Jernigan
and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
wife of 60 years, Iva Esther Wideman Jernigan; to his son, Sheriff
A. D'Wayne Jernigan and his wife, Imelda; to his daughter, LaVern
Jernigan Sartor and her husband, James; to his sisters, Aline
Jernigan Lee and Viola Jernigan Sustaita; to his brothers, Wilbert
Jernigan, Edward Jernigan, Jack Jernigan, and Paul Jernigan; to his
six grandchildren; to his five great-grandchildren; and to his
other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Jernigan's family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Allen Henry
Jernigan.
