R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Refugio "Cuco" Garcia of Del Rio on December 26, 2002, at the age of 92, has brought a great sense of loss to his family and friends; and WHEREAS, Born on July 4, 1910, in Lampasos, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, Mr. Garcia moved to Del Rio in 1921, where he became a highly regarded businessman in the community; he owned the Oasis Café, co-owned Garcia Brothers Supermarket, and was a distributor of jukeboxes and pinball machines; and WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia and the former Maria Guerra began their journey together as husband and wife on July 28, 1929; their close and enduring union spanned 72 years, until Mrs. Garcia's passing, and served as an inspiration to their loved ones; blessed with four children, Mr. Garcia took great pride in his close-knit family that has grown to include 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, A talented musician who taught himself piano and banjo, Mr. Garcia played music by ear and was still able to enjoy playing piano until a few months before his passing; during the 1930s and 1940s, he was the owner and leader of the Cuco y Sus Aces Band, whose performances entertained countless residents of the Southwest Texas region; and WHEREAS, Though Refugio "Cuco" Garcia is deeply missed, he is remembered for his zest for life, his warm smile, and his enthusiasm for music by all those who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Refugio "Cuco" Garcia and extend sincere sympathy to his children, Dr. Ramon Garcia and Robert Garcia; to his grandchildren, Lynn Dube, Dr. Michael Garcia, David, Ricardo, Thomas, Roberto, Rolando, and Jason Garcia, Steve Tyler, Lisa Martinez, Laura Najvar, Wilson Tyler, Jr., Rebecca Massiatte, and Melissa Duncan; to his great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Refugio Garcia.
