R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, With his passing on January 25, 2002, at the age of
80, Heriberto "Beto" San Miguel of Del Rio left behind a family whom
he treasured and a legacy of love; and
WHEREAS, Born on May 21, 1921, in Zaragoza, Coahuila, Mexico,
Mr. San Miguel moved his young family to Del Rio in 1954 so that they
might find greater opportunity and a brighter future in their new
home; he counted among his proudest times the day he and his family
became American citizens, and he was deeply touched by his sons'
patriotic service in behalf of this nation as members of the armed
forces; and
WHEREAS, This hardworking Texan was employed as a laborer and
migrant worker in the early years of his career, and he went on to
gain employment with the San Felipe-Del Rio Consolidated
Independent School District as a groundskeeper in the years before
his retirement; and
WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, Mr. San Miguel enjoyed
a happy and rewarding marriage with his wife, Maria De Jesus
Richarte San Miguel, until her death, and he took great pride in the
accomplishments of his cherished children, grandchildren, and
great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Mr. San Miguel gladly gave back to his community,
volunteering alongside his children at activities throughout Del
Rio, including the annual Feast of Sharing; and
WHEREAS, Though Mr. San Miguel has been deeply missed, the
memory of his devotion to his family and community will forever
endure in the hearts of all those who were privileged to know him;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Heriberto "Beto" San
Miguel and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to
his daughter, Argentina San Miguel; to his sons and
daughters-in-law, Oscar and Delores San Miguel and Joe and Conchita
San Miguel; to his grandchildren, Sandra San Miguel, Oscar San
Miguel, Jr., and his wife, Sandra, and Lisa Rodriguez and her
husband, Arturo; to his great-grandchildren, Alanis Monet San
Miguel, Cisco Sebastian San Miguel, Jacqueline Victoria Rodriguez,
and Zoe Carissa Rodriguez; to his sister, Concepcion "Conchita" De
Luna and her husband, Enrique; and to his many other friends and
relatives; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Heriberto
"Beto" San Miguel.
