R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of James "Shorty" Turner of Del Rio on
December 18, 2001, at the age of 68, has deeply saddened the family
and many friends of this esteemed gentleman; and
WHEREAS, A native Texan, he was born on March 29, 1933, in
Merkel, and moved to Del Rio in 1966 to assume the position of
district general manager of General Beverage Company; and
WHEREAS, About 10 years later, Mr. Turner began his 25-year
association with the law enforcement profession, and at the time of
his passing, he was serving the citizens of Val Verde County in the
capacity of a Precinct 3 constable; and
WHEREAS, With his wife of 44 years, Edith, he enjoyed a close
and fulfilling relationship that was blessed with a fine family
that today spans four generations; and
WHEREAS, Though James Turner is deeply missed, the memory of
his goodwill, love of the outdoors, and dedication to the people he
served will long be remembered by all those who were privileged to
know him; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of James "Shorty" Turner
and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
wife, Edith Turner; to his daughter and son-in-law, Claudine and
Jack White; to his sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie Seabourn,
Pauline Barbian, Velma and Pete Prentice, and Bessie and Gary
McCurdy; to his grandchildren, Scott White, Mark White and his
wife, Judy, and Lisa Lynde and her husband, Bob; to his
great-grandchildren; and to all those who mourn the passing of this
beloved man; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of James
Turner.
