R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Honorable Alia Moses Ludlum was invested as the
first female U.S. District Judge in the Western District at a
ceremony held at the Del Rio Civic Center on February 21, 2003, with
nearly 1,500 supporters in attendance; and
WHEREAS, A Texan of great intelligence and determination,
Judge Ludlum is the daughter of Amelia and Abdalla Moses and a
native of the small town of Quemado; she is a graduate of The
University of Texas School of Law and, throughout her illustrious
career, she has earned the respect and admiration of her peers for
the commitment to excellence she brings to every aspect of her life;
and
WHEREAS, This distinguished jurist is also a role model for
all young citizens of the Lone Star State, especially its girls and
young women, who seek to overcome any challenges placed in their way
in pursuit of their dreams; her honesty, integrity, and wisdom are
second to none, and her courtroom will undoubtedly be a place in
which fairness and justice reign supreme; and
WHEREAS, In her role as the first woman in history to be
appointed U.S. District Judge in the Western District, Judge Ludlum
is helping to break down barriers, and she will undoubtedly inspire
future generations of Texans who will follow in her footsteps in the
noble calling of public service; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable Alia Moses Ludlum on
her recent investiture as U.S. District Judge of the Western
District and extend to her sincere best wishes as she embarks on
this exciting new chapter in her life; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Judge Ludlum as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
