R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, It is always a pleasure to welcome international
visitors to the Lone Star State, and it is a particular privilege to
recognize a special group of students here today who are
participating in the International Student Exchange Program; and
WHEREAS, This exemplary program, which is based in New York,
has chapters in 48 states and offers students from Europe, Asia, and
Latin America the opportunity to study for either one semester or
one year in the United States while living with a host family;
students are selected to take part in this program based on their
English and academic ability, maturity and flexibility, and
interest in promoting cross-cultural understanding; and
WHEREAS, Nine delegates of this notable group are visiting
the Capital City today from the program's Lumberton chapter with
regional advisor Tammy Ivey Droste, and they include Kevin Lee of
South Korea, Zhengyang Li of China, Gabriela Branco of Brazil,
Chin-Tsan Chiu of China, Manuela Kim of Switzerland, Maria Bonilla
of Colombia, Heitor Soldatti of Brazil, Edwin Wong of China, and
Julia Klawitter of Germany; and
WHEREAS, Endeavoring to offer the future leaders of the world
an opportunity to exchange a broad range of cultures, traditions,
and lifestyles is a most commendable undertaking, and the many
individuals who help to make this project a success are indeed
deserving of high praise; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby recognize March 31, 2003, as International
Student Exchange Program Day at the State Capitol and extend to the
young men and women participating in this program sincere best
wishes for an educational and memorable visit; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the members of the organization as an expression of
high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
