R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Demonstrating what a community working together through a spirit of volunteerism can accomplish, the M. D. Anderson Family YMCA held its Playground Build Day on March 1, 2003; and WHEREAS, The M. D. Anderson Family YMCA has served Houston's Northside area for more than 50 years; it has provided residents with licensed child-care sites, a preschool, a teen camp, computer labs and classrooms, and summer outreach programs, and now brings to its community a safe place for families to gather and for children to play; and WHEREAS, Under the guidance of the playground-building nonprofit organization KaBOOM!, 200 volunteers from the M. D. Anderson Family YMCA, CNA insurance companies, and the local community assembled ridge climbers, several slides, and activity decks; other enhancements, including refurbished bleachers, were also made to create a more family- and child-friendly environment; and WHEREAS, This concerted volunteer effort will greatly benefit nearby Houston neighborhoods and contribute to an improved quality of life for area residents, further establishing the M. D. Anderson Family YMCA as a reliable resource and friend to the community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby commend all those who participated in the M. D. Anderson Family YMCA's Playground Build Day for their productive day's work and extend to them sincere best wishes for success in all future endeavors.
