R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Pat George Mitchell has greatly benefited her community for the past 30 years through her roles as founder of the Longview Ballet Theatre and devoted teacher; and WHEREAS, Ms. Mitchell's unparalleled dedication to the dancers who have studied with her has truly enhanced the world of fine arts within Longview and the East Texas region; and WHEREAS, Students who have studied under her creative direction have gone on to train and perform with the Martha Graham Company of New York and the New York City Ballet, have traveled to Russia for further study, and have received the prestigious Ford Foundation Scholarship; those who have returned to their former community serve as an inspiration to the young dancers of the Longview Ballet Theatre; and WHEREAS, Under her expert direction and inspired by her unwavering support, Ms. Mitchell's talented ballet enthusiasts have through the years delivered stunning performances rich with personal messages and symbolism; their musical accompaniment has included a diverse selection from such audience favorites as Rossini's "Overture" to The Barber of Seville, The Phantom of the Opera, Annie, and West Side Story, as well as pieces by composer Aaron Copland; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby commend Pat George Mitchell for her unwavering commitment to the Longview Ballet Theatre over the course of the past three decades and extend to her and the company warmest best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Mitchell as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
