R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On April 30, 2003, a delegation of North Texas residents is visiting Austin in celebration of Grand Prairie Day at the State Capitol, and this event provides a fitting opportunity to honor one of the city's outstanding leaders, Teri Jackson, who is completing her tenure on the city council after 17 years of dedicated service; and WHEREAS, Currently in her eighth full term, this esteemed public servant began her service with the council in 1986; she has chaired numerous council committees, including, for the past 14 years, the finance and government subcommittee, and she has worked as a member on many others; and WHEREAS, Mayor pro tem in 1994-1995, council member Jackson has given generously of her time and talents in support of various noteworthy civic organizations and initiatives, such as the Grand Prairie Sports Facilities Development Corporation, the Grand Prairie Convention and Visitors Bureau Advisory Committee, the Texas Municipal League, and the National League of Cities, as well as Children First and the Boys and Girls Club; and WHEREAS, For her efforts, she was named the 1994 Athena Award recipient, a 1996 Woman of Distinction, and 2001 Citizen of the Year, and she was Chamber of Commerce Award winner for 1995 and 2002; furthermore, in 2000, her fellow council members recognized her by renaming the city's tourist information center in her honor; and WHEREAS, A graduate of the Leadership Texas and Leadership Grand Prairie programs, this lifelong Grand Prairie resident has earned the lasting respect and admiration of her fellow citizens for her unwavering service to her community, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring her at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby commend Teri Jackson on her outstanding tenure with the Grand Prairie City Council and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in her future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for council member Jackson as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
