R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Mercedes community is justifiably proud of Principal Emilio T. Garcia, Jr., of the Mercedes Alternative Academy for his invaluable contributions to the area of education; and WHEREAS, A former employee of the Texas Department of Human Services who helped open the first food stamp office in Brownsville, Mr. Garcia took control of operations at the Mercedes Alternative Academy three years ago; and WHEREAS, During his tenure the student population has tripled in size, and Mr. Garcia has worked tirelessly to create opportunities for each individual; last year, he and the school's six highly qualified teachers helped 107 students attain their high school diplomas; and WHEREAS, Demonstrating skillful leadership, unwavering dedication, and a sincere interest in seeing the students succeed, Mr. Garcia has earned the respect and gratitude of the entire community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby commend Principal Emilio T. Garcia, Jr., for his commitment to education and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Garcia as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
