H.R. No. 670
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, County governments across Texas provide outstanding
service to our state's citizens by implementing the laws passed by
state leaders and by serving as a gateway for accessibility to the
vital services that result from the passage of those laws; and
WHEREAS, County officials are situated on the front lines of
government, for they occupy a level of government that is closer to
the people and are directly responsible to area citizens for
performing a multitude of fundamental tasks that enable our society
to run more smoothly, safely, and efficiently; and
WHEREAS, County governments routinely provide law
enforcement services, operate courts, build and maintain roads,
collect taxes, conduct elections, and safeguard vital public
records while also providing many other services that support our
communities, businesses, and schools; and
WHEREAS, Responsive to the unique needs of the communities
they serve, whether urban, rural, or a combination of both, county
governments play a leading role in economic development,
environmental regulation, agricultural support, flood control,
pest eradication, and a host of other valuable functions that
clearly benefit our state's citizens in numerous, tangible ways;
and
WHEREAS, The professional and highly skilled staff who are
employed by county governments in Texas strive to deliver the best
possible service to their citizens, and it is fitting that we join
with our fellow Texans in saluting the ongoing contributions that
this dynamic workforce makes to the Lone Star State each day; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby recognize April 7, 2003, as County Government
Day in Texas and commend the many dedicated individuals who are
employed by county governments across Texas for their important
public service.
