R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The third grade teachers and students of Socorro Independent School District (ISD) exceeded state averages on this year's Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills reading test; and WHEREAS, In the district, 90 percent of students passed the English test and 84 percent passed the Spanish test; statewide, the averages were 89 percent and 82 percent, respectively; and WHEREAS, Through the commitment and guidance of Sue Shook, Ph.D., assistant superintendent for instructional services, the district was able to develop a strong, well-rounded curriculum that gave teachers valuable tools for helping students learn, and Esther McCarthy, director for elementary education, was instrumental in implementing and monitoring that curriculum; and WHEREAS, Socorro ISD has cultivated a sound and supportive learning environment where students can thrive, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring this district's recent achievement; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Socorro Independent School District on the outstanding performance of its third graders on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills reading test and extend to the district's students and faculty sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Socorro ISD as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
