R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, For nearly a quarter century, Juan Alvarado of San 
Antonio has served on the board of trustees for the Southwest 
Independent School District, and at the conclusion of his 
distinguished tenure in that capacity, he truly merits special 
legislative recognition; and
	WHEREAS, An alumnus of the district's Southwest High School, 
Mr. Alvarado was first elected to the board in 1979, and over the 
ensuing years he won the respect and admiration of educators, 
administrators, and board members alike for his dedication and 
leadership; he served as the board's vice president in 1980 and as 
its secretary from 1984 to 1987, and he was reelected as vice 
president in 1988; and
	WHEREAS, In recognition of his work with the board, this 
esteemed gentleman was named Outstanding School Board Member for 
Education Service Center No. 20 four times; and
	WHEREAS, Mr. Alvarado completes his service to the Southwest 
ISD Board of Trustees on April 30, 2003, and he is most deserving of 
commendation for working to create the finest possible educational 
opportunity for the students of San Antonio; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas 
Legislature hereby honor Juan Alvarado for his outstanding service 
to the Southwest Independent School District Board of Trustees and 
extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and 
happiness; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for Mr. Alvarado as an expression of high regard by the 
Texas House of Representatives.
