R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Boys State is a respected educational program
sponsored by the American Legion that provides participants the
opportunity to experience firsthand the operation of our
representative form of government; and
WHEREAS, Each year, the members of Boys State convene in
Austin, where they broaden their understanding of how public policy
is formulated by taking part in a simulated legislative session;
and
WHEREAS, In the process, these young Texans develop and
practice skills in organization, management, persuasive speaking,
and interpersonal communication that will enable them to become
effective civic leaders of tomorrow; and
WHEREAS, The American Legion has requested the use of the
house chamber on Friday, June 13, 2003, for the purpose of convening
its annual session of the Boys State House of Representatives; and
WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives heartily
endorses the goals and ideals of the Boys State legislative session
and commends the American Legion for sponsoring this valuable
program; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby grant the American Legion permission to use the
house chamber, provided that the house is not in session and subject
to the house rules and policies of the Committee on House
Administration, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 13, 2003, for the
purpose of conducting its Boys State legislative session.
