R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family and friends of Manly David Ballard of Abilene sustained a great loss with the passing of this beloved gentleman on March 13, 2003; and WHEREAS, Born on December 23, 1916, in El Paso, Texas, Mr. Ballard earned a bachelor of science degree from Abilene Christian College and a master's of business administration from The University of Texas; he served his country with distinction during World War II in the United States Air Force; and WHEREAS, Mr. Ballard returned to Abilene after his term of service was fulfilled and began a successful career as an agent for State Farm Insurance Company; Mr. Ballard was the second-longest serving agent nationally still working for State Farm at the time of his passing; and WHEREAS, Deeply committed to his abiding faith and to Abilene's University Church of Christ, Mr. Ballard served his fellow brothers and sisters in Christ as an elder for 25 years and served many more years as a deacon; and WHEREAS, Manly Ballard was devoted to his close-knit family, which included his wife of 58 years, Louise, and his children, Brent and David, encouraging them to devote themselves to Christian education as he did so faithfully his entire life; and WHEREAS, A kind and generous man who put his great heart, wisdom, and experience in service to others, Mr. Ballard also encouraged the hearts of many with his thoughtfulness, good humor, and genuine spirit, and he will be forever cherished by those who were blessed to share his love and friendship; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the life of Manly David Ballard and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Louise Giles Ballard; to his first son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Cheryl Ballard; to his second son and daughter-in-law, David and Karen Ballard; to his grandchildren, Christopher, Amy, Wesley, and Gregory Ballard; and to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his wife and the other members of his family.
