R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The La Rue La Poynor High School girls' basketball
team achieved a long-sought goal by winning the 2003 UIL Class A,
Division I, state championship; and
WHEREAS, The Flyerettes took to the floor determined to win
the school's first championship; the players' unyielding will to
win propelled them to a fourth quarter rally over Gruver High School
that culminated in a 52-47 victory, enabling them to claim the state
crown and complete the 2002-2003 campaign with a record of 32-6; and
WHEREAS, The season's outstanding accomplishments were a
result of total dedication to the team concept by players Ashley
Adair, Sha Shead, Sam Tobin, Rebecca Handley, Penny Morris, Pam
Williams, Courtney Shead, Jessica Bundy, and Sarah Hilton, who was
voted most valuable player for her efforts; and
WHEREAS, Head coach Curtis Corley provided his charges with
exceptional leadership and inspiration, enabling them to realize
their championship dream, and he was ably supported in his efforts
by assistant coach Dale Burk; and
WHEREAS, These outstanding student-athletes, with their
coaches and staff, are a source of tremendous pride to all those
associated with La Rue La Poynor High School, and it is indeed
appropriate that the team receive special legislative recognition
at this time; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the members of the La Rue La Poynor
High School girls' basketball team on winning the 2003 UIL Class A,
Division I, state championship and extend to them sincere best
wishes for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for prominent display at La Rue La Poynor High School as an
expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
