R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, San Antonio's Sam Houston High School boys' basketball team advanced to the semifinals of the 2003 state championship tournament after claiming the Region IV championship; and WHEREAS, The Hurricanes completed their season with a 29-10 record and joined the Sam Houston High School girls' basketball team to become the first two teams from the San Antonio Independent School District to compete in the state tournament in the same sport during the same season; and WHEREAS, Schooled in basketball fundamentals by head coach Wayne Dickey and assistant coaches Byron Hildebrand, Malachi Nellum, and Eric Coleman, the Hurricanes overcame a slow start to the season to reach the state tournament for the first time in 20 years; and WHEREAS, Team members include seniors Chris Russell, Arron Cockran, Victor Dupree, Ugl Winn, Chris Daniels, and Reggie Dunn; juniors Antawon Childs, Jarrett Dillard, and Lionel Ross; and sophomores Terrell Nichols, Scott Campbell, and Danny Woods; and WHEREAS, Competing for a state title builds character and promotes teamwork and trust, and these remarkable young men have surely gained a great deal through this memorable experience; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate coach Wayne Dickey and the members of the Sam Houston High School boys' basketball team on their fine season and extend to them best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
