R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family and friends of Edward Monroe "Boy" Morton
of Katy were deeply saddened by his passing on March 25, 2003; and
WHEREAS, Born on June 26, 1923, Mr. Morton came to Texas when
he was six months old; at the age of 21, he married Dot, his wife of
58 years, and their union was blessed with two children, Keith and
Lee; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Morton, whose grandparents homesteaded on what
is now Morton Road in 1896, farmed in Texas for 61 years; assisted
by friend and helper Eddie Clark since 1954, he enjoyed each day of
his work and truly loved the land that he worked; and
WHEREAS, Active in numerous organizations, he ably served the
community through his participation with the Farm Service Agency,
American Rice Growers, Appraisal Board of Harris and Waller County,
Soil Conservation Association, and American Quarter Horse
Association; he also belonged to First United Methodist Church in
Katy; and
WHEREAS, People who love their work are indeed fortunate, and
"Boy" Morton shared his good fortune by being a good friend and a
good neighbor, and his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts
of those individuals whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the life of Edward Monroe
Morton and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to
his wife, Dot Morton; to his sons, Keith and Lee Morton; to his
daughters-in-law, Barbara and Lois Morton; to his grandchildren,
Cheryl and Travis Clary, Michael and Brook Morton, Daniel Morton,
and Zachary Morton; to his great-grandson, Dylan Morton; and to his
other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Edward
Monroe Morton.
