R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, University of Texas women's head basketball coach Jody Conradt reached another milestone in her illustrious career on January 22, 2003, when she claimed her 800th victory, becoming one of only six Division I coaches to achieve that plateau; and WHEREAS, Facing seventh-ranked Texas Tech in this all-important contest, the Lady Longhorns refused to be denied, battling to a 69-58 victory to present Coach Conradt with her 800th career win; and WHEREAS, A Goldthwaite native and graduate of Baylor University, she began her career at Sam Houston State University and also coached at The University of Texas at Arlington before taking the helm of the women's basketball team at the Forty Acres in 1976; and WHEREAS, Coach Conradt quickly built the Texas program into a perennial national contender, and in 1986 her Lady Longhorns achieved the pinnacle of success by becoming the first women's basketball team to finish the season as undefeated national champions; and WHEREAS, Also a gifted and dedicated administrator, she served with distinction as women's athletic director at UT for 10 productive years, ably guiding the program through an unprecedented period of expansion; and WHEREAS, Coach Conradt's status as a sports legend was permanently enshrined through her 1998 induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, and she is also an inductee of the International Women's Sports Hall of Fame, the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, the Texas Women's Hall of Fame, and the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame; in addition, she has been named National Coach of the Year four times and has received numerous other awards and accolades far too numerous to mention; and WHEREAS, Over the course of her remarkable career Jody Conradt has established herself as one of the true giants of her profession, and this significant milestone provides a fitting opportunity to honor her for her many phenomenal achievements; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate University of Texas women's basketball head coach Jody Conradt on her 800th career coaching victory and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Coach Conradt as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
