R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Roel C. Campos of Houston was accorded a well-deserved honor when he was appointed to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission; and WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Campos was born and raised in Harlingen, where he attended Harlingen High School; after completing his bachelor of science degree at the Air Force Academy, this notable gentleman served with distinction as an officer in the U.S. Air Force; and WHEREAS, Mr. Campos was the first member of his family to attend college, and he honored his family's belief in his abilities and stalwart support by obtaining an outstanding education, earning an MBA from the University of California at Los Angeles and a law degree from Harvard Law School; and WHEREAS, For 15 years, Mr. Campos worked for major law firms in California as a corporate transactions/securities lawyer and litigator; in 1985, he became a federal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles and made a name for himself for his successful prosecutions of violent narcotics cartels and major government contractors guilty of fraudulent conduct; and WHEREAS, Mr. Campos went into private practice for several years before cofounding a radio broadcasting company, El Dorado Communications, Inc., which is currently based in Houston; and WHEREAS, His many accomplishments were duly recognized when he was nominated to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission by President George W. Bush; he was confirmed by the senate on July 26, 2002, and was sworn in as a commissioner in August 2002; and WHEREAS, Mr. Campos is well-prepared and eminently qualified to answer the call to service as a commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, having amassed a lifelong record of outstanding achievement and brought skilled leadership to each endeavor he has taken on; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby honor Roel C. Campos on his appointment to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success in the years to come; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Campos as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
