R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, In times of great peril throughout the history of our nation, men and women of the United States military have gone bravely into battle; and WHEREAS, U.S. Army Private First Class Ruben Estrella-Soto, Jr., embarked from Fort Bliss in support of our nation's campaign to liberate Iraqi citizens from repression; with the 507th Maintenance Company, he was killed in action when his convoy was ambushed in Iraq; and WHEREAS, The beloved son of Ruben Estrella and Amalia Soto, this courageous soldier was an aspiring engineer and a graduate of Mountain View High School, where he was on the football team; Private Estrella-Soto was a young man who took great pleasure in seeing others smile and treasured the strong Christian faith that sustained him on and off the battlefield; and WHEREAS, A Mexican immigrant, Private Estrella-Soto cherished the freedoms and opportunities he knew in America; he died March 23, 2003, for the hopes and dreams of men and women in his adopted country and so that men and women in a far away country could also hope and dream; and WHEREAS, Unflinching bravery and a resolute commitment to fulfill his oath to serve, regardless of the personal consequences, were demonstrated by this valorous American; the State of Texas and the nation now mourn the loss of Ruben Estrella-Soto, Jr.: a soldier for a brief period, a hero forever; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby honor the life of Ruben Estrella-Soto, Jr., and extend to his family deepest sympathy: to his parents, Ruben Estrella and Amalia Soto; to his sister, Cynthia Estrella-Soto; to his brother, Edgar Estrella-Soto; and to his many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Private Ruben Estrella-Soto.
