R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Robert Edward Hall of Eastland is celebrating his
80th birthday, and this special occasion provides an opportunity to
recognize this gentleman's distinguished service to his country
during World War II; and
WHEREAS, Born in Sylvester on April 13, 1923, Mr. Hall
answered his country's call to duty and joined the U.S. Army on
February 25, 1943; a member of the 18th Corp, 1st Army, 552nd AAA
Battalion, D Battery, he swiftly earned the rank of Tech 5 and
received training as a switchboard operator and marksman in
addition to his coast artillery basic training; and
WHEREAS, Serving under the prestigious commands of General
George Patton and General Omar Bradley, Mr. Hall ran communication
lines for Allied Forces and served in the Battle of Normandy as well
as the battles of Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central
Unit; he earned the American Theatre Campaign Medal, the Good
Conduct Medal, the Eame Campaign Medal with five Bronze Stars, and
the WWII Victory Medal; and
WHEREAS, After valiantly serving his country Mr. Hall was one
of 5,500 U.S. service personnel who returned home from the war via
luxury liner, and on December 9, 1945, he was honorably discharged
at Camp Fannin, Texas; and
WHEREAS, On January 27, 1947, Mr. Hall married the former
Frances Laverne Richardson; for the past 56 years they have filled
each other's lives with many happy times and cherished family
memories, and their enduring union has been blessed with two
daughters and five grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Hall is a courageous Texan whose bravery and
strong sense of duty reflect a deep commitment to his country and to
his fellow citizens; his service and sacrifice, which have made the
world a better place for generations to come, will not be forgotten
by those for whom he fought; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Robert Edward Hall on the joyous
occasion of his 80th birthday and extend to him warmest best wishes
for continued happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Hall as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
