R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Mike and Diane Easley were recently honored by the
Houston Heights Association as its Citizen of the Year for their
long-standing involvement in making their community an even better
place in which to live; and
WHEREAS, Houston Heights, founded in 1891, is one of the
state's oldest planned communities; developed by Oscar Carter and
the Omaha Texas Land Company, this charming, eclectic neighborhood
is beloved by many for its distinctive Victorian homes, wonderful
antique stores and specialty shops, and popular annual events; and
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Easley, who have lived in the Houston
Heights area since 1980, were members of a coalition that raised
$500,000 to renovate Milroy Park, a project that spanned 10 years,
and they have hosted a number of fund-raising events for the
community in their own home; strong supporters of local
initiatives, the couple has also worked tirelessly to increase
corporate sponsorships, amend deed restrictions, secure funding
for the Heights Boulevard beautification project, and protect the
historical integrity of the community; and
WHEREAS, These dynamic Texans have played a key role in the
success of the Houston Heights Association, an organization founded
in the early 1970s to promote the revitalization and improvement of
the Houston Heights neighborhood; Mrs. Easley, a manufacturing
professional, has chaired the popular Spring Home Tour and, in
addition, has been involved with the association's Holiday Home
Tour; Mr. Easley, who is a certified public accountant, has helped
the association to maintain solid financial footing over the years
through his work as treasurer, board member, and president of the
association; and
WHEREAS, Committed civic leaders and caring neighbors, the
Easleys have earned a special place in the hearts of their fellow
"Heightsites," and the couple's shared belief in the importance of
volunteerism is both admirable and inspiring; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Diane and Mike Easley on their
selection by the Houston Heights Association as its Citizen of the
Year and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success
and happiness in their future endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Easleys as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
