R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dr. Anna Guzman of Edinburg is being honored as the 2003 Mother of the Year by AVANCE-Rio Grande Valley at a special gala on May 10, 2003, in McAllen; and WHEREAS, AVANCE is a nonprofit organization that provides health and education services primarily to Hispanic families in the Rio Grande Valley; its support includes the Christian Children's Fund Sponsorship program and the AVANCE Parent Education program, as well as prenatal education for people living in colonias; AVANCE has demonstrated admirable leadership in enrolling children in the Child Health Insurance program, benefiting thousands of families in the Valley, and its noteworthy efforts are making lasting contributions to the personal and economic success of the low-income residents throughout its service region; and WHEREAS, Dr. Guzman is most deserving of this notable organization's Mother of the Year accolade, for she has consistently demonstrated the finest qualities of motherhood, which include compassion, dedication, and sacrifice; and WHEREAS, A committed physician, she regularly cares for the sick and disabled in her community in addition to giving an abundance of quality time to her own three daughters; she also volunteers to assist at school field trips and makes educational presentations to the students; her volunteerism extends further to include an active five-year membership in the Make-A-Wish Foundation, for which she has ably served as a board member; and WHEREAS, This exemplary mother is a role model for all and a trusted friend and source of great pride to her community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Anna Guzman on being named Mother of the Year by AVANCE-Rio Grande Valley and commend AVANCE-Rio Grande Valley for its invaluable contributions in support of families in the Valley area; and, be it further RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Guzman and for AVANCE-Rio Grande Valley as expressions of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
