H.R. No. 776


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Residents of Bryan lost a beloved neighbor and friend with the passing of William J. "Fuzzy" Douglas, Jr., on April 2, 2003, at the age of 92; and WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Douglas was born in Trinity on March 5, 1911; he moved to Bryan in 1928 to attend Texas A&M University, from which he graduated in 1932; and WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II; when he returned from service, he established W. J. Douglas, Jr., Insurance Agency and went on to serve on the board of General Security Life Insurance Company and retire from a successful career that spanned 35 years in the insurance industry; and WHEREAS, Chairman of the Bryan Housing Authority Board for 40 years, Mr. Douglas was involved in a number of noteworthy organizations, including the A&M Century Club, Joe Werner Lodge No. 553, the Houston Scottish Rite Bodies, Arabian Shrine, and the Brazos Valley Shrine Club; he was also a member of First United Methodist Church, where he participated in the businessmen's Bible class; and WHEREAS, William Douglas was a man of integrity, compassion, and strong faith, and while he will be greatly missed, his memory will live on in the hearts and minds of the many people whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of William J. "Fuzzy" Douglas, Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife of 55 years, Doris Lee House Boriskie Douglas; to his son and daughter-in-law, William J. "Jack" Douglas III and Linda Douglas; to his daughter-in-law, Sue Boriskie; to his grandchildren and their spouses, William J. "Will" Douglas IV, Shauna Lynn Douglas, Jacklyn Lee Douglas, Benjamin Allen "Ben" Douglas, Doris and Paul Chmelar, Susan Denise Boriskie, Marcie Leigh and Will Thompson, Mike and Christina McCoy, and Darrel Wayne and Karyn McCoy; to his great-grandchildren, Christopher Chmelar, Andrew Murphy, Ryan McCoy, Ian Thompson, Taylor Navarro, and London McCoy; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of William J.
