R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of John Anton Hajovsky on November 15,
2002, at the age of 95, deeply saddened the family and friends of
this esteemed banker and longtime Weimar resident; and
WHEREAS, Born on June 1, 1907, in Holman, Mr. Hajovsky began
his more than 75 years with Hill Bank and Trust Company on March 17,
1935, as a bookkeeper; rising through the ranks of assistant
cashier, cashier, vice president, and director, he became president
of the bank in 1959; Mr. Hajovsky remained president of Hill Bank
and Trust for more than 30 years, and upon his retirement in 1989,
he received the distinguished title of president emeritus and
continued to make daily visits to the bank for many years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Hajovsky was a generous benefactor of the
Colorado Fayette Medical Center, the Parkview Manor Nursing Home,
the Weimar Fire Department, the Weimar Public Library, the Heritage
Society Museum, and the local Boy and Girl Scout programs; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Hajovsky married his wife of many years, Martha
Hluchanek, on June 17, 1935; they were devoted members of St.
Michael's Catholic Church and made important contributions to the
church as well as St. Michael's School; the longest living member of
the Weimar Knights of Columbus, Mr. Hajovsky was a dedicated member
of the 4th degree who held the positions of recording secretary,
financial secretary, and grand knight; in 1977, he received from
Pope Paul VI the papal honor of Knight of St. Gregory the Great; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his lifetime, Mr. Hajovsky was deeply
involved in his community; he was a 59-year member and Paul Harris
Fellow of the Weimar Rotary Club and served as the organization's
president; Mr. Hajovsky was also active in the Weimar Chamber of
Commerce and the Weimar United Fund; and
WHEREAS, Among his many honors, Mr. Hajovsky received the
Weimar Masonic Lodge No. 423's Community Builder Award, the highest
accolade that the Masons can bestow on a nonmember; the City of
Weimar also recognized him as cogrand marshal of the Gedenke 125
Parade, and he was an honorary member of the Weimar Fire Department;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Hajovsky was an extraordinary man whose generous
gifts touched people of all ages and whose warm smile and handshake
will truly be missed; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the life of John Anton
Hajovsky and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:
to his sisters, Georgia Seifert and Lilie Kennedy and her husband,
J. P.; to his sisters-in-law, Tuttie Hajovsky, Thelma Hajovsky,
Dorothy Hajovsky, and Edna Neumeyer; to his nieces and nephews; and
to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John Anton
Hajovsky.
