R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A 50th wedding anniversary is truly cause for a celebration, and on February 15, 2003, Mike and Esmeralda "Lala" Givilancz of Weslaco marked this momentous event in their marriage with a mass at St. Pius X Catholic Church followed by a reception and dance; and WHEREAS, The couple exchanged wedding vows on February 15, 1953, in Mercedes, Texas, and shortly thereafter the newlyweds relocated to Okinawa, Japan, where Mr. Givilancz was stationed as a member of the United States Air Force; two of their children were born in Japan during the couple's extended stay in that country, and today, their seven children, 17 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren are a source of great pride for Mr. and Mrs. Givilancz; and WHEREAS, During his 21-year career in the service, Mr. Givilancz moved his family to Illinois, New York, and finally, San Antonio, where they were living when he retired; the entire family soon moved back to Weslaco to live and establish a business, the Border Lumber Company, which Mr. Givilancz operated for more than 20 years, while also providing residential construction in the area; and WHEREAS, Respected members of their community, Mr. Givilancz is a carpenter at heart who on occasion assists with remodeling projects in local parishes, while Mrs. Givilancz has assisted with her church's gift shop and today is employed on a part-time basis with Lionel's Western Wear; and WHEREAS, Together, this devoted couple have shared the trials and triumphs of five decades, and it is indeed appropriate that they be honored at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Mike and Lala Givilancz on the joyous occasion of their golden wedding anniversary and extend to them warmest wishes for future happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Givilancz as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
