R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, North Texas residents lost an esteemed neighbor, friend, and public servant with the untimely passing of Detective William James "Bill" Carollo on April 5, 2003, at the age of 46; and WHEREAS, A former United States marine, Detective Carollo worked on a suburban Chicago police force before joining the Dallas Police Department (DPD) where, with the exception of a year and a half during which he worked as a special agent with the FBI, he spent the duration of his career; he was an 18-year veteran of DPD and was most recently assigned to the Homicide Unit in the department's Crimes Against Persons Division; and WHEREAS, He was the vice president of the Dallas Police Association and was instrumental in establishing Assist the Officer, an organization that helps families of officers who are injured or killed; and WHEREAS, A passionate defender of life and property, Detective Carollo lost his life in a car accident while he was driving to his Euless home; his passing was a tragic loss to his family, to his fellow officers, and to the entire community; and WHEREAS, Detective Carollo will be greatly missed, but his legacy of heroic dedication to his duty and commitment to others will continue to be a source of inspiration for the countless people whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of William James "Bill" Carollo and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his daughter, Nicole Marie Carollo; to his former wife, Ramona Kay Carollo; to his sister, Kathleen M. Hanson; to his brothers, Robert J. Carollo, Michael J. Carollo, and George Carollo; to his stepson, Nathan Bittle; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of William James "Bill" Carollo.
