H.R. No. 799
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Residents of Dallas lost a beloved neighbor, friend,
and attorney with the passing of Robert Lawson Ivy on April 2, 2003;
and
WHEREAS, Born on January 1, 1922, Mr. Ivy graduated from
Adamson High School in 1939 and enrolled at The University of Texas;
shortly thereafter, he joined the United States Army and served in
the 503rd Airborne Division during World War II; he was awarded a
Purple Heart and a battlefield commission as well as a Bronze Star
for valor; and
WHEREAS, On returning from military service, he married
Georgea Boone Oliver and resumed his studies at Baylor University,
graduating with honors from the university's law school in 1951;
and
WHEREAS, Over the course of his career, Mr. Ivy practiced law
in Odessa and Lubbock before moving his offices to Fort Worth; after
many years of working as a successful plaintiff's attorney and
serving as president of the Tarrant County Trial Lawyers
Association and on the board of the Texas Trial Lawyers
Association, he retired in 1977 and moved to Dallas to be near his
family; and
WHEREAS, Robert Lawson Ivy was a quiet, kind, and gentle man
of remarkable intelligence, and while he will be greatly missed,
his memory will live on in the hearts and minds of the many people
whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Robert Lawson Ivy and
extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his son,
Steve Ivy and his wife, Linda; to his daughter, Jan Ivy and her
husband, Paul Heiselman; to his grandchildren, James, Christopher,
Laura, and Katy; to his brother and sister-in-law, David and Helen
Ivy; to his sister, Wini Ivy Holmes; to his sister-in-law, Mattie
Ivy; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Robert
Lawson Ivy.
