H.R. No. 805
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, When Peter Cottontail comes hopping down the bunny
trail to the home of the Honorable Jodie Laubenberg this year, he'd
better include a few candles in with those decorated eggs, as April
20, 2003, marks the joyous occasion of her birthday; and
WHEREAS, Representative Laubenberg is a third-generation
Texan and a proud graduate of The University of Texas at Austin;
while still in college, our esteemed colleague worked in these
hallowed halls as a Capitol tour guide and dreamed of the day when
this magnificent structure would house her own legislative office,
no doubt already planning how she'd decorate and organize it as
well; and
WHEREAS, A woman who puts the pulse in obsessive-compulsive,
Representative Laubenberg demonstrated her propensity for neatness
early in life, organizing her closet by color and charging her
little sister a buck a week to clean her side of the room; this
behavior has stayed with her through the years, according to her
grandmother, who got up one morning during a stay at her
granddaughter's house to get a drink of water and returned to her
bed to find that it had already been made up in the blink of an eye;
and
WHEREAS, Determined to similarly tidy up affairs at the
local, state, and national levels of government, this Parker City
resident became active in Republican Party politics and in
supporting those candidates who shared her beliefs; possessing the
stamina of the Energizer Bunny, this tireless volunteer wasn't
content to stop there; her enthusiasm and drive found her "running
and running and running" to countless events that would eventually
lead to her election to the seat once held by Senator Kay Bailey
Hutchison as a member of the State Republican Executive Committee;
and
WHEREAS, The devoted wife of Bob Laubenberg, with whom she
owns and manages a consulting company, Ms. Laubenberg is also the
mother of two children, David and Liz; through her myriad
endeavors, she has elevated multitasking to an art form and brought
her skills to bear as a member of the Dallas County Health
Department Program Review Board, the Collin County Park Foundation,
and the Parker City Council; and
WHEREAS, Swept into office as a state representative with
nearly 80 percent of the vote, she currently gives at least 110
percent of herself each day as a first-term member of this chamber,
and she shares her intelligence, enthusiasm, and enviable stamina
and focus with her colleagues as a member of the House Committee on
Local Government Ways and Means and as vice chair of the House
Committee on Public Health; and
WHEREAS, Always ready to vote aye in favor of chocolate,
pecan pie, and anything sweet, Representative Laubenberg remains
firmly committed to the theory that living well is the best revenge,
and we encourage our esteemed colleague to give herself the day off
on her birthday to explore this matter further; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable Jodie Laubenberg on
the occasion of her birthday and suggest to her that she throw
caution to the wind and go ahead and put all of her eggs in one
basket on her birthday, but just for that day; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Representative Laubenberg as an expression of warmest
best wishes for a restful, happy day by her colleagues in the Texas
House of Representatives.
