R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, When Peter Cottontail comes hopping down the bunny trail to the home of the Honorable Jodie Laubenberg this year, he'd better include a few candles in with those decorated eggs, as April 20, 2003, marks the joyous occasion of her birthday; and WHEREAS, Representative Laubenberg is a third-generation Texan and a proud graduate of The University of Texas at Austin; while still in college, our esteemed colleague worked in these hallowed halls as a Capitol tour guide and dreamed of the day when this magnificent structure would house her own legislative office, no doubt already planning how she'd decorate and organize it as well; and WHEREAS, A woman who puts the pulse in obsessive-compulsive, Representative Laubenberg demonstrated her propensity for neatness early in life, organizing her closet by color and charging her little sister a buck a week to clean her side of the room; this behavior has stayed with her through the years, according to her grandmother, who got up one morning during a stay at her granddaughter's house to get a drink of water and returned to her bed to find that it had already been made up in the blink of an eye; and WHEREAS, Determined to similarly tidy up affairs at the local, state, and national levels of government, this Parker City resident became active in Republican Party politics and in supporting those candidates who shared her beliefs; possessing the stamina of the Energizer Bunny, this tireless volunteer wasn't content to stop there; her enthusiasm and drive found her "running and running and running" to countless events that would eventually lead to her election to the seat once held by Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison as a member of the State Republican Executive Committee; and WHEREAS, The devoted wife of Bob Laubenberg, with whom she owns and manages a consulting company, Ms. Laubenberg is also the mother of two children, David and Liz; through her myriad endeavors, she has elevated multitasking to an art form and brought her skills to bear as a member of the Dallas County Health Department Program Review Board, the Collin County Park Foundation, and the Parker City Council; and WHEREAS, Swept into office as a state representative with nearly 80 percent of the vote, she currently gives at least 110 percent of herself each day as a first-term member of this chamber, and she shares her intelligence, enthusiasm, and enviable stamina and focus with her colleagues as a member of the House Committee on Local Government Ways and Means and as vice chair of the House Committee on Public Health; and WHEREAS, Always ready to vote aye in favor of chocolate, pecan pie, and anything sweet, Representative Laubenberg remains firmly committed to the theory that living well is the best revenge, and we encourage our esteemed colleague to give herself the day off on her birthday to explore this matter further; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable Jodie Laubenberg on the occasion of her birthday and suggest to her that she throw caution to the wind and go ahead and put all of her eggs in one basket on her birthday, but just for that day; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Representative Laubenberg as an expression of warmest best wishes for a restful, happy day by her colleagues in the Texas House of Representatives.
