H.R. No. 806
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Members of Team Texas have been selected to
participate in the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Dublin,
Ireland, June 21-29, 2003; and
WHEREAS, Team Texas is comprised of 59 exceptional young men
and women and 13 coaches from across the state; the group will
travel to Ireland as part of Team USA to compete in the Special
Olympics World Summer Games; and
WHEREAS, Participants from the United States will join 7,000
athletes, 3,000 coaches, and 28,000 friends and family members from
160 delegations in what will be the largest international
multisport event in the world in 2003; the Texas delegation will
compete in 12 sporting events, ranging from aquatics to table
tennis; and
WHEREAS, While representing the Lone Star State in the
Special Olympics World Summer Games, Team Texas will undoubtedly
uphold the Special Olympics time-honored athletic oath, "Let me
win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt."; and
WHEREAS, Throughout its history, Special Olympics has made
significant contributions to the physical, social, and
psychological development of its participants by providing them
with an avenue of success through athletic competition; the members
of Team Texas have proven that they possess the ability and resolve
to meet difficult challenges and they are truly worthy of special
recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the members of Team Texas for being
selected to compete in the Special Olympics World Summer Games and
extend to them sincere best wishes for a successful and memorable
event.
