H.R. No. 811


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The year 2003 marks the 30th anniversary of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at El Paso, and this milestone provides a fitting opportunity to honor one of the individuals who has helped to make this facility the renowned institution it is today; and WHEREAS, Olga Ortega has played an instrumental role in the development and growth of this respected medical center; after having worked at Thomason Hospital for 15 years, Ms. Ortega joined Texas Tech's psychiatry department in 1977, transferring to the dean's office eight years later; she garnered the respect and admiration of all who were privileged to know her during her tenure as the first manager of student affairs, and over the years she would play an instrumental role in all aspects of the center's office of medical education, including the licensing of medical faculty, the recruitment of house staff residents, the education of third-year and fourth-year students, and the accreditation of residency programs and student curriculum; and WHEREAS, Through her exemplary contributions to the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Olga Ortega has helped to establish Texas Tech El Paso as a valuable resource for health care education and delivery for the citizens of West Texas, and her unwavering devotion to the well-being of her fellow Texans will not soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby commend Olga Ortega, whose outstanding service in behalf of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center has ensured a brighter future for countless people; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Ortega as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
