H.R. No. 835


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, In his five years as men's head basketball coach at Sam Houston State University, Bob Marlin has shaped his Bearkat team into a force to be reckoned with in the Southland Conference; and WHEREAS, When he took over the Sam Houston State University program, Coach Marlin set about transforming the Bearkats from a perennial dweller in the Southland Conference's lower division to a repeat title winner; his remarkable efforts were rewarded with conference championships in 2000 and 2003, and he was deservedly named Southland Conference Coach of the Year for each of those seasons; and WHEREAS, Before joining the staff at Sam Houston State University, Coach Marlin was an assistant coach at Alabama, Marshall, Houston Baptist, and Louisiana-Monroe; he began his head coaching career at Pensacola Junior College, where his phenomenal success in taking his team to a national title earned him National Junior College Coach of the Year honors in 1993; and WHEREAS, A native of Tupelo, Mississippi, he earned a bachelor of science degree in physical education at Mississippi State University and went on to attain a master's degree in health and physical education from Northeast Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Under Coach Marlin's expert direction, the men's basketball program has become a source of great pride to all those associated with Sam Houston State University, and it is indeed appropriate that he receive special legislative recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Bob Marlin on his team's exceptional performance during the 2002-2003 season and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Coach Marlin as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
