R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The year 2003 marks the conclusion of the distinguished tenure of Dr. Ernie W. Laurence, Sr., as superintendent of the Hutto Independent School District, and his retirement provides a fitting opportunity to reflect on his outstanding career; and WHEREAS, This esteemed administrator graduated from Baylor University with a bachelor's degree in health and physical education and mathematics; he went on to earn his master's degree in health and physical education from Baylor University and his doctorate in education administration from Texas A&M University; and WHEREAS, Dr. Laurence embarked on a career in education as a teacher and coach at Reicher Catholic High School in Waco in 1968; over the ensuing years, he worked in Cameron, San Antonio, and Killeen independent school districts, where he served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, and director of certified personnel; and WHEREAS, In 1985, he moved to the Hutto Independent School District and assumed the duties of superintendent; for nearly two decades, he served with integrity, wisdom, and dedication, and won the respect of students, parents, teachers, and administrators alike; and WHEREAS, In addition to pursuing his career, Dr. Laurence has been an active member of the community, giving generously of his time and talents in support of a host of worthwhile civic organizations; he is a past president of the Hutto ISD Lions Club, a deacon and elder in the Church of Christ in Taylor, a member of the board of directors of Temple College in Taylor, and a cofounder and coach for the district's pony league; and WHEREAS, Dr. Laurence has demonstrated a deeply rooted commitment to education and to serving others, and it is a pleasure to join in commending him on an exceptional career; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Ernie W. Laurence, Sr., on the occasion of his retirement and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Laurence as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
