R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to
recognize the members of the ESL Gifted and Talented Program at El
Paso's Socorro High School for the dedication and hard work they
have demonstrated; and
WHEREAS, The program features an inventive and progressive
curriculum that presents ESL Gifted and Talented students with a
demanding yet stimulating academic experience, while providing
them the opportunity to explore real-world applications of the
information they study in class; the trip these students took to the
State Capitol on March 17-18, 2003, is an example of the type of
rich learning experience this outstanding program gives students;
and
WHEREAS, The six members of the Socorro High School ESL
Gifted and Talented Program are: Brenda Bagues, Daniela Gandarilla,
Perla Quintana, Flor V. Torres, Evelyn Zuniga, and Luis E. Zuniga;
under the able guidance of teacher Rosario Rojas, these exceptional
students have researched and met Hispanic authors and political
figures whose work in government has served as a stepping stone for
other Hispanics; and
WHEREAS, The ESL Gifted and Talented Program at Socorro High
School has benefited the lives of many students, enabling them to
believe that no goal is beyond reach, regardless of a person's
ethnic or socio-economic background, and the young men and women
who take part in this outstanding program are truly worthy of
praise; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby commend the students of Socorro High School's
ESL Gifted and Talented Program and their teacher, Rosario Rojas,
for their interest in governmental affairs and their exceptional
research efforts; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the ESL Gifted and Talented students and their teacher
as an expression of high regard and best wishes from the Texas House
of Representatives.
