H.R. No. 846
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Residents of Boerne lost a beloved neighbor and
friend with the passing of Elvira Hodge on January 21, 2003; and
WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mrs. Hodge was born in Navarro
County on September 21, 1938, to Dennie and Annie Mae Allen Kelley;
she married Ben Andrew Sheffield, Sr., and the couple enjoyed a
rewarding marriage until his passing in 1970; and
WHEREAS, Fortunate to find love again, this esteemed woman
wed Sheriff Henry B. Hodge on October 24, 1974; she was a devoted
homemaker throughout the couple's 28-year marriage; and
WHEREAS, Elvira Hodge was a woman of integrity and
compassion, and while she will be greatly missed, her memory will
live on in the hearts and minds of the many people whose lives she
touched; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Elvira Hodge and
extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her loving
husband, Henry B. Hodge; to her sons, Henry Lawrence Kelley and Ben
Sheffield, Jr.; to her daughters, Evelyn Annett Sheffield, Beverly
Renee Sheffield, Wanda Marie Mays, Loita Williams, and Ehrikka
Dionne Hodge; to her mother, Annie Mae Kelley; to her brothers,
Burnice Auto, Pernell, Arthur Dean, Leslie, and Thomas Willie
Kelley and Christopher Smith; to her sisters, Annie Pearl Hatley,
Betty Jo Williams, Carolyn Zollifoffer, Elsie Kelley, and Frances
V. Sheffield; to her grandchildren, Shannon, Lashonia, Jeremy,
Shaneka, Brittany, Kendra, Derrick, Baileigh, and Ben; to her
great-grandchild, Jardan; and to her other relatives and many
friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mrs. Hodge's family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Elvira
Hodge.
