R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Stan Stanley was deservedly named 2002 Citizen of
the Year by the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce for his many notable
contributions to the betterment of his community; and
WHEREAS, A gifted athlete in high school, Mr. Stanley played
baseball his freshman year at Texas Christian University; he later
took a position at Johnson and Johnson Pharmaceutical, where he
became national sales director for the health care division, and
after 15 years he entered the sign business; and
WHEREAS, He has worked to bring prosperity to his fellow
citizens as a member of the board of directors of both Tradition
Bank and the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce, and has devoted
considerable time and energy to chamber projects in his six years
with the organization; and
WHEREAS, This civic-minded gentleman has for many years
served as a judge for the Katy Rodeo Parade and has also worked as a
dedicated volunteer on the Rice Harvest Festival; in addition, he
teaches country western dancing with his wife to area couples, and
has often donated proceeds to help with mission fund-raisers; and
WHEREAS, An Eagle Scout, Mr. Stanley has been active in
scouting for half a century; personally whittling a walking stick
for every new Eagle Scout in the area, including Governor Rick Perry
and his son, he has shared his enthusiasm and wisdom to benefit
local youth as a scoutmaster and as district commissioner for the
Mustang District of the Sam Houston Area Council; for his myriad
contributions, he was chosen to receive numerous accolades,
including the second highest award in scouting, the Silver Beaver;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stanley's dedication to his fellowman and his
civic accomplishments are a source of inspiration to all who know
him, and have greatly contributed to the Katy community; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Stan Stanley on his selection as
2002 Citizen of the Year by the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce and
extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Stanley as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
