R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Joe Tays was selected by the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce as the 2001 Citizen of the Year, and it is a pleasure to recognize his receipt of this noteworthy honor; and WHEREAS, A fifth-generation Texan, Mr. Tays was born in New Braunfels and graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in management in 1981; he has worked in the banking industry for the last quarter-century and now serves as the senior vice president of Community Bank in downtown Katy; and WHEREAS, Since moving to the city in 1982, this esteemed gentleman has dedicated significant time and energy to supporting various local events and organizations, including the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the Katy Rice Harvest Festival, the Katy Rotary Club, the Katy Business Association, the Katy Heritage Society, and the Katy Veterans Memorial Museum; and WHEREAS, A member of First United Methodist Church of Katy, Mr. Tays has served as vice chairman and board member of the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce and recently completed a term as the Katy City Council member at large; in addition, he has been active with the city's economic development board and the school district's Partners in Education program, serving on the Junior Achievement Advisory Board; and WHEREAS, Joe Tays has demonstrated a deep commitment to building a brighter and more promising future for the residents of Katy, and his efforts have won the respect and admiration of men and women throughout his community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Joe Tays on being named 2001 Citizen of the Year by the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Tays as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
