R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On April 3, 2003, the Frisco RoughRiders played the first game of the franchise's inaugural season at the new Dr Pepper/Seven Up Ballpark in Frisco; and WHEREAS, Designed by architect David M. Schwarz, the new ballpark is distinguished by its old-fashioned, wood-structure, retro look and is unique in that the bullpen areas are built into the stands behind first and third bases; with luxury boxes and fixed seating for 8,800, the stadium can also accommodate an additional 1,800 fans in overflow lawn areas; and WHEREAS, The Frisco RoughRiders, the Double A minor league affiliate of the Texas Rangers, have 72 home games scheduled in the facility during the 2003 season, and the high volume of ticket sales, including an opening night in which all seats were sold, is a testament to both the popularity of the new franchise and its magnificent home stadium; and WHEREAS, This new sporting venue, along with the RoughRiders baseball team, is sure to have a significant positive impact on the city of Frisco as well as the wider community, and it is appropriate to recognize all those associated with the RoughRiders and wish them a winning first season; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Frisco RoughRiders and all those associated with the Dr Pepper/Seven Up Ballpark on the facility's opening, and that they be extended sincere best wishes for future success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for prominent display at the Dr Pepper/Seven Up Ballpark as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
