R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Richardson Independent School District (RISD) Capitol Scholars program promotes academic excellence and challenges students to expand their horizons of knowledge beyond the classroom; and WHEREAS, Given outstanding support by the Richardson business community, this worthy program allows fine young minds the unique opportunity to observe the governmental process and meet many of those individuals who participate in it; and WHEREAS, Having earned this singular distinction through superior achievement in a competitive essay contest, this year's 2003 RISD Capitol Scholars are Sara Henderson and Jennifer Paul of J. J. Pearce High School, Kevin Vance and Todd Baty of Berkner High School, Stephen Ringer and Lynn Janick of Lake Highlands High School, and Karla Elosua and Daniel Amoako of Richardson High School; the students are accompanied on their trip to Austin by Elizabeth Soch, Spencer Moorehead, Julie Maddox, and Chawn Cummings, teachers from each of the schools represented; and WHEREAS, These exemplary students will be welcomed to the Capitol by State Representative Fred Hill, who, for the eighth legislative session, has sponsored the RISD Capitol Scholars program; and WHEREAS, Fostering an interest in and understanding of the governmental process for the leaders of tomorrow is at the heart of the RISD Capitol Scholars program, and it is indeed appropriate that this valuable project be given special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby welcome the winners of the 2003 Richardson ISD Capitol Scholars program and congratulate them on their outstanding accomplishments; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the 2003 RISD Capitol Scholars as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
