R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Kendra Anderson of Hardin-Simmons University (HSU) has been named the 2003 State Farm/Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division III National Player of the Year, and this achievement caps a truly superlative collegiate athletic career; and WHEREAS, A three-time American Southwest Conference (ASC) West Division MVP and four-time ASC Tournament MVP, Ms. Anderson averaged 20.1 points and 10 rebounds per game during her senior season while leading the Cowgirls to a remarkable 27-1 record and the team's first Division III number-one ranking; and WHEREAS, Widely acknowledged as the premier player in the history of HSU women's basketball, this talented and versatile team leader helped the Cowgirls compile a four-year record of 102-11 that included four NCAA Sweet 16 appearances and one Elite Eight berth; a two-time Academic All-American, she holds a 3.795 grade-point average and has maintained a 4.0 GPA for six consecutive semesters; and WHEREAS, Ms. Anderson has earned numerous awards and accolades during her four years at Hardin-Simmons, including multiple Player of the Week honors, All-Region recognition, and two-time selection as a Division III First Team All-American; she has excelled both on and off the hardwood, demonstrating passion, dedication, and maturity beyond her years, and gaining the respect and admiration of coaches and fellow players alike; and WHEREAS, With strong support from her parents, Susan and Woody Anderson, her older brother, Brad, and coaches Julie Goodenough and Shanna Briggs, Kendra Anderson has created a legacy of success that will not soon be forgotten, and her exemplary efforts as an athlete, student, and person have made her a role model for young women everywhere; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby honor Kendra Anderson for her many accomplishments as a member of the Hardin-Simmons University women's basketball team and extend to her best wishes for continued success in all her future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Anderson as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
