R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Sul Ross State University men's basketball coach
Doug Davalos has been named American Southwest Conference (ASC)
West Division Coach of the Year, and it is indeed a privilege to
join in paying tribute to him at this time; and
WHEREAS, In his first season as coach of the Lobos, Coach
Davalos led the team to a 19-6 record and the ASC West Division
Championship; the Lobos also enjoyed their first postseason
tournament appearance in 67 years; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of MacArthur High School in San Antonio,
this up-and-coming young coach earned a bachelor's degree from the
University of Houston in 1994 and a master of arts degree from
Auburn University in 1996; and
WHEREAS, During his two years at Auburn, Coach Davalos was a
graduate assistant with the men's basketball program; he later
served four years as head coach at Fort Stockton High School and
most recently worked as an assistant coach at Eastern New Mexico
University; and
WHEREAS, With his outstanding work ethic and passion for
teaching, Coach Davalos will undoubtedly continue to build on the
successes of the 2002-2003 season, sharing his years of experience
with his players and gaining additional prestige for Sul Ross State
University; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Coach Doug Davalos on his selection
as American Southwest Conference West Division Coach of the Year
and extend to him best wishes for continued success and happiness;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Coach Davalos as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
