R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Lesley Milas Delaney, Sr., on April 20, 2003, at the age of 94, has brought a great loss to the family and friends of this beloved gentleman; and WHEREAS, Born August 22, 1908, in Crockett, Mr. Delaney graduated from high school in his hometown and attended Butler College before beginning his career as a professional electrician; and WHEREAS, A devoted family man, he enjoyed a strong and loving union with his wife, the former Martha Lee Warren, who preceded him in death in 1970 after nearly four decades of marriage; Mr. Delaney took great pride in his eight children, with whom he shared many happy times throughout the years; and WHEREAS, Tyler's first licensed African-American electrician, this dedicated entrepreneur established L. M. Delaney and Sons in his community and also helped others chart their career paths as the founder of Delaney's Radio School; and WHEREAS, Mr. Delaney was a devoted member of True Vine Baptist Church in Tyler and contributed to the church in numerous ways, serving as Sunday school superintendent, director of the Baptist Training Union, and chairman of the Deacon Board; he later attended St. John Baptist Church and New Birth Baptist Church in Dallas and was a member of Divine Trinity Community Church in Lancaster; and WHEREAS, Individuals possessed of Mr. Delaney's strength of character are far too rare, and though his loss has left a void in the lives of many people, his memory will stay with them always; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lesley Milas Delaney, Sr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his sons and daughters-in-law, Lesley M. Delaney, Jr., and Bobbie Delaney, Pastor Billy R. Delaney and Beverly Delaney, Willy L. Delaney, and John H. Delaney; to his daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria L. Johnson and Ennis Johnson, Shirley A. Jones, Martha C. Lusk, and Mentha M. Clark and Tim Clark; to his 19 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; to his sisters-in-law, Barbara Delaney, Georgia Delaney, and Ada Delaney; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lesley Milas Delaney, Sr.
