R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dr. Sterling Lands II is the organizing and senior pastor of Greater Calvary Baptist Church in Austin, and throughout his distinguished career as a clergyman he has worked tirelessly in behalf of his congregation and the greater Austin community; and WHEREAS, A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, this esteemed gentleman holds a bachelor of science degree from the Southern University School of Engineering and a doctorate of divinity degree from the National Theological Seminary; for nearly two decades he has provided spiritual guidance and leadership to the members of Greater Calvary Baptist Church, while working for positive change in the community as an active civic leader, and his tireless service includes tenures as chair of the Eastside Social Action Coalition, vice chair of the Austin Revitalization Authority, and membership on the City of Austin's Planning Commission; and WHEREAS, Dr. Lands, the president of ANAK Consultants, brings to his vocation many years of professional and pastoral experience; he is the founder and president of several area organizations, including Greater Calvary Rites of Passage, a group specializing in character-centered youth development, and Rites of Passage Development, Inc., a group that promotes affordable housing, as well as community, human, and economic development; and WHEREAS, In each facet of his life, Dr. Lands has dedicated himself to his fellowman through faith and hard work, and the congregants of Greater Calvary Baptist Church are justifiably proud of the accomplishments of their devoted senior pastor; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby commend Dr. Sterling Lands II for his noteworthy contributions to his community and to Greater Calvary Baptist Church; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Lands as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
