R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Residents of Lago Vista have lost a beloved neighbor, friend, and community leader with the passing of Dr. Robert "Bob" Lorenz on April 4, 2003, at the age of 85; and WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Lorenz was born on December 25, 1917, and spent much of his childhood in Bloomington, Illinois; after graduating from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri, he moved to Dallas and began a career in medicine that spanned more than four decades; and WHEREAS, Devoted to serving others, Dr. Lorenz gave generously of his time and talents in support of a host of worthy civic organizations, including the Dallas Rotary Club, St. Joseph's Home for Girls, and TAOPS; he was also a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the American Osteopathic Association, Hella Shrine, the North Lake Travis Shrine Club, and the Ben Hur Temple of Austin; and WHEREAS, In his free time, this esteemed gentleman was an avid golfer, who was active with the Hella Temple golf unit, the Ben Hur golf unit, the International Senior Amateur Golf Society, and the Tropicana Tri Play in Las Vegas; in addition, he served as the attending physician with King Haasan Golf Trophe in Rabat, Morocco, for 13 years; and WHEREAS, Dr. Lorenz was also an accomplished musician, having played violin with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra during high school and, more recently, having sung with the Dallas Rotary Glee Club and various churches; and WHEREAS, Robert Lorenz was a man of integrity, enthusiasm, and compassion, and while he will be greatly missed, his memory will live on in the hearts and minds of the many people whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Robert "Bob" Lorenz and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife of 41 years, Sally Lorenz; to his daughter, Leslie Varel; to his son, Mark Varel; to Mr. and Mrs. John Casey, Dr. and Mrs. John Casey, Dan Casey, Mr. and Mrs. Tim Casey, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Courtney, and Mr. and Mrs. Michael Maher; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the house of representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Robert Lorenz.
