H.R. No. 911
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The success of charity organizations such as the Red
Cross is due, in large part, to the contributions of individuals who
understand the importance of serving others, and it is a pleasure to
honor a young woman who exemplifies this spirit of giving; and
WHEREAS, The daughter of Nora and Hector Jimenez and a
fourth-grader at C. E. Vail Elementary School in La Feria,
10-year-old Darlene Jimenez took the initiative and is helping to
make a difference in the lives of people on the other side of the
world; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Jimenez collected toiletries and money to donate
to the Red Cross and wrote letters to American soldiers serving in
Iraq as part of a class project; and
WHEREAS, Determined to do even more, she continued to take
donations from students, administrators, and staff of both her
school and nearby Roosevelt Elementary School; she collected an
additional $75 over the ensuing two weeks and donated that money to
the Red Cross as well; and
WHEREAS, Darlene Jimenez is a civic-minded and selfless young
Texan, and her efforts are an inspiration to Texans of all ages;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby commend Darlene Jimenez for her exemplary
generosity and patriotism and extend to her sincere best wishes for
success in all of her future endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Jimenez as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
